In the photo, one of more important activities of the Nalukataq seen here is the blanket toss. Large blankets made of bearded seal skin (or ugruk) are used to toss jumpers 2-3 meters in air. Traditionally, jumpers tossed out goods such as tools, food or clothing to demonstrate their ability to provide. Today, candy is tossed out to throngs of children.
